IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNING
For your safety and the well‑being of the animal:
Never attempt to contain or handle an animal that appears dangerous, injured, sick, or poses a threat to public safety.
- Signs of concern may include growling, snapping, visible injuries, coughing, or unusual behavior.
- Trying to capture such an animal can put you, the pet, and others at risk.
What to do instead:
- Keep a safe distance and do not approach.
- Contact your local animal services or shelter immediately for assistance.
- If possible, note the animal’s location and description to share with professionals.
- Your safety comes first. Leave dangerous or ill animals to trained experts who can provide proper care.
How to Use the Microchip Scanner
1. Turn on the scanner:
- Press the power button. Wait until the screen or light shows it’s ready.
2. Hold the scanner close to the pet:
- Start at the pet’s shoulder area and slowly move the scanner over their body.
- Microchips can migrate, so make sure to scan the entire animal.
- Move slowly—like brushing the pet.
3 Watch for a beep or number:
- If the scanner finds a chip, it will beep or show a number on the screen.
- This number is the pet’s microchip ID.
4. Write down the number:
- Use your phone or a notepad to record the ID exactly as shown.
5. Look up the microchip ID:
- Visit Microchip Registry Lookup - AAHA to search for microchip information. We have also provided a QR code to direct you to the appropriate site.
- Using the contact information provided, contact the registered phone number.
6. If no chip is found:
- Try scanning again slowly. If still nothing, the pet may not have a chip.
- In that case, contact your local shelter or animal services for help. Visit our Unreadable or No Chip instructions page for more info.
